The Coke Diet
same family

I'm currently drinking like three servings of coke a day give take a couple of servings, which actually means that I'm taking in a lot of sugar and gas and acid and godknowswhat stuff that's inside the bloody coke can. Although I mostly drink canned coke, I actually prefer bottled ones. Despite me taking in the whole of of carbon dioxide from the coke, I actually hate gassy drinks. But the addiction of coke weighs far more greater than my hatred.

I think my love with coke started sometime last year during summer when I was overseas alone. Homesickness and loneliness and the rough patch sank me into depression and the only thing that could alleviate my problems was drinking coke. It makes me feel better. After getting out of the rough patch, life turned back to normal for me again. With me preferring to drink other kinds of sweetened drinks rather than coke, sweetened but with gas.

The last summer when I was back alone overseas, the coke addiction came back. At that time it was also when I found of the sublimal differences between coke and pepsi.

Let me first talk about Pepsi. Some people say pepsi tastes better, I don't deny that. If on a normal occasion, one is to be blindfolded and taste drink both brands of cola, pepsi will win, but then to me, when there's a need to alleviate depression, pepsi doesn't work at all. I don't know why, it is tasty, gassy and sweet, but something about it that doesn't bring satisfaction to me when I'm depressed, I cannot get that sort of comfort as when I drink coke. That was when I demarkated the specific purpose of drinks. Pepsi is best for an after meal drink, not a too heavy msg-laden meal, but a light and hearty meal. For msg-laden meals, coke does the trick. Also specifically for coke is for when I'm depressed.

It's amazing how I can sit in the pantry in the middle of the night with my 1.5L bottle of coke sipping it and downing half a bottle that night. Some times when things go real bad and there's no coke in sight, pepsi can do just a little bit for me to get by, but only on desperate occasions.

The difference between canned coke and bottled coke is the gas, and that's what make me prefer bottled coke to canned ones. The gas is easier to disseminate from a bottle than from a can, usually the best coke I have is bottled coke which has already been opened for a couple of days, there'll still be that little bit of gas, but not too flat that it tastes just like sugared water.

Following my addiction and over reliance on coke, I had to get the father to purchase lots of coke for me. He brought back a carton of canned coke. Being his spoilt princess, I demanded for him to get me the bottled ones. He broght back two bottles the next day. After I finished them, I demanded more. But the father was pretty alarmed by my rate of finishing the coke that he didn't comply. I subsisted on the canned ones in the meantime. Finally he relented and bought a bottle, but it's a 1L bottle because he got it from the petrol station instead of the supermarket. Naturally I finished that bottle before one can say "pepsi cola one two three". After that, the father brought back two cartons of canned coke from the grandfather's place. The thing about bringing things back from the grandfather's place means that I've to finish them all, two cartons leh...

After evolution, I also realised the best way to drink coke with feeling over gassed. It's open my can of coke and leave it in the fridge overnight, the next morning the coke would be perfect for consumption. but I cannot leave the coke in the fridge for too long or the coke will turn stale and flat and become a can of sweetened water.

And that's only about the coke I drink at home. I drink more coke in school. I actually spend the 70cents (from the canteen) and 80cents (from the vendings) for canned cokes and $1 (from the vending) for bottled ones. I'd prefer to buy the bottled ones anyday, but the problem is that the stupid vending is often out of the way for me to reach and I can't keep my coke chilled. Yes, I prefer my coke to be chilled. That's why sometimes the canteen coke sucks, when they've just been replenished into the refridgerator. I actually keep a little stash of straws in my bag so that I can drink coke from the vendings in peace.

This American guy I met in Germany once smirked when he saw that I needed to drink coke with straws. He was like, it's not surprising that I've got very sensitive teeth that cannot withstand gas and acid and cold because of all the coke I'm drinking. yea... Coke spoils the teeth, but what to do? I just love coke too much. Coke actually spoils the bones too, especially for women. Recently, I've been taking to eating cheese every day. For every serving of coke I drink, I'd eat the corresponding amount of slices of cheese every day.

I hope this preventive measure works. Luckily I love cheese and milk. If not, I'm probably die from brittle bones like now.

I actually like the feeling of drinking chilled coke early in the morning as the first thing I let flow down my throat. The prickly cool sensation is great. I can feel the sensation in my mouth, going down my throat, into my chest, filling me with energy and finally resting in my stomach and chilling all of my insides. My sister always says that the coke will corrode my stomach, but I don't care. It's probably not the most advisable thing to drink it the first thing when one wakes up, but the feeling derived from it just outweighs everything else. I don't care if I've a hole in my stomach.

I don't know if anyone remembered, but I actually had a scope done before. Did it at East Shore Hospital because I thought my stomach was spoilt but it turned out according to my GP with reference to my pyschaitrist that it's probably my depression and anxiety that made me think that my stomach is spoilt. Hearing this, I think it's not that easy to spoil my stomach, so from then on, I really am adding the acid into the stomach like every morning.

One thing good about coke is that it's so acidic that it can just clear all the dirt and bacteria and other godknowswhat stuff, that I always find it a good thing to use to clear bad breath and use as a mouth wash. After eating fishy stuff (since I don't eat onions and garlics, I don't think those matter), I like to use coke to wash off all the fishy after taste. It really works.

Some people say coke keeps them awake, for me coke keeps me awake too, but it also helps me sleep better at night. Every night before I sleep, I'd like to have some coke to sooth me down, comfort me, and put me to bed. I sleep easier, more peacefully, and better with that coke I took it. Without coke, I often find myself unable to fall into a deep sleep, unable to dream, unable to feel rested enough the next day even if I drink coke in the morning.

Even without coke, I've a wide range of sweet drinks well stocked at home thanks to the grandfather. He knows I liked Yeo's crysamthemum tea and every week, the father would bring back two packages of them (one dozen individual servings), Yakult too, but mostly my sister drinks them, I don't take healthy stuff, remember. And not forgetting Ribena. If I don't drink coke, I'll have to drink Ribena. It's my energy boost, as in a physical energy boost rather than the placebo coke.

I've thought about it already, I don't care if I lose all my teeth, at the most I'd get myself fitted with dentures, then I don't need to be self conscious of me teeth also. I really hate my teeth, they are too small and my gums are too big and my teeth are yellow and crooked despite me having been fitted braces for two whole years. sucks...

Every day no less than five people would chide me for all my coke drinking, but you know what, I don't give a damn to what you say. This is my health and I want to thrash it, what can you do about me? Maybe I need help out of the rough patch 2.0 then maybe I can slowly quit off the coke.

<div class="c1">Aiii....writing from the doctor's. Waiting for my turn. Suffering from some painful swollen eye. Damn sianz. Maybe cos been reading too much. Been preparing for my CFA Level 1 paper on Dec 6. But aiii....barely studied. So much to read, so little time. Min recommended self study time is 300hrs. I can at best do 100hrs. Realistically, I would be happy to do just 70hrs. Oh well, just try my best.<br /></div>

</div>

<div class="c1">And, my blog's still a mess. I've still not posted my hols photos. I created a new site with wordpress but have not progressed further. I have so many things I wanna do but as usual, they remain undone. I am either studying, working, or just dreaming my time away. I need to continue working towards getting things done instead of just thinking. Maybe after I quit my job next year to study full time and to take a break, I can clear my crazy list of backlogs? Looking forward to that day. Only reluctance is the losing of my income. Guess you can't get the best of both worlds huh.<br /></div>

2008 Suzuki DRZ 400 SM
After months of waiting, the wife's DRZ finally arrived on the 5th of Sep. I had initially wanted to wait for the latest COE results on the 3rd of Sep but the wife's getting impatient and so I called up the bike shop on the 1st and told them that I want my bike asap. To collect the bike as soon as possible, it would mean that I would have to buy the existing COE currently held by them, at a sum of $1310. The fees for the transfer of COE is $170 so in total, I spent $1480 on a worthless piece of paper certifying that I am entitled to buy a motorcycle. WTF! However, that also means that in the Vehicle Log Card, I am recognized as the 2nd owner... not really very crucial since I dun think I would be letting go of the bike anytime soon.

The black stallion

The good thing that came out of all this was that, when the latest COE results was revealed on the 3rd, COE for motorcycles have risen to $1452! For getting the bike a few days earlier, and for being the 'second owner', I had paid only $28 more than the latest COE results. Quite worth it considering I saved myself from getting grumbled at! lol.

See her happy smile?

The bike in stock standard form...except for the wing mirrors, those were changed almost immediately after getting the bike

But first, I have to get the broken in first, and I subscribed to what the good people at mototuneusa

suggested. To go against the owner's manual and perform a hard run in.

Riding a new bike hard and on the roads is risky at best, stupid at worst. The brakes are new, the handling, sitting position needs getting used to, the tyres are still coated with a layer of protective wax. And according to the website, I gotta redline the bike in all the gears!

For stupid stunts like these, I would need the help of someone equally crazy/ stupid...

Enter Xgrind Stage Left.

He shall be the extra pair of eyes I need and also the person who would mostly likely stop to help in case anything were to happen. And so it was him that accompanied me the 60plus klicks back home. Yes, I took the 'scenic' route back from Eastern Singapore to the western part where I lived. Instead of taking the easiest and shortest route, the PIE, I went for a big round, utilising the TPE, SLE, BKE, KJE and then PIE again. We even rode to one of the most famous (among cyclists, boy racers and army guys) stretch of road, Lim Chu Kang Road.

First person thoughts of the bike? Well, it was nowhere near the power and performance of the last dirtbike I had, the DRZ400E. The bike feels, restricted and breathless. The lack of a rev counter did nohing to hide the fact that the bike reaches red line very soon. And the sad part is that the stock engine power is just not there. And the original exhaust is just stupendously ugly.

Well, its a minor problem that could easily be fixed. The full system exhaust is on its way and I have already bought a jetting kit to fix it on at the same time as the exhaust system. With a better air filter, I believed the bike would perform better.

Handling wise, I have no complaints. The Zee just loves to carve up the road and the bike's relatively light weight makes flicking it into the corner a joy. With the short wheelbase, Stoppies and wheelies were never a problem.

Brakes were working fine so far. Guess I can put off changing the original brake hose until much later. But there are still things that I feel must be done in order to beautify it. The original white axle sliders have just gotta go since it has been documented that the bloody thing is just a waste of time. Riders have fallen and the stock sliders did jack shit to protect the bike.

A pair of rear Motovation sliders plus another pair to the front gave me a sense of security. I have also bought engine case guards and a radiator brace from San Francisco which went onto the bike before I even took it out of the shop. As mentioned earlier, a new pair of wing mirrors have replaced the original butt ugly squarish mirrors.

I have also changed the original rear mud guard/ brake/ signal lights to after market ones. Took us both quite a bit of time as the wiring was just too short compared to the original ones. Luckily, due to my work nature, I have no problems lengthening the wires by splicing and joining two wires together.

Notice the extremely long 'mud guard' and ugly looking light assembly

This one looks much better, ain't it?

But my wife is still not satisfied and she has already begun to execute her plan to to 'pink-a-lise'. More girly stickers are on the way and pretty soon, this Zee would be one of the most feminine one around!

Check out the bright LUMINOUS pink rim stickers

She also customised a set of decals of our nicknames in PINK to stick on the front of the bike.

And come this weekend, if her OTHER customised stickers are ready for collection, the 'pink-a-lised' DRZ would be almost complete! But before that, she just must get something to mark her turf.

What Causes Ulcerative Colitis?
So what causes UC? Hell, in short, no one knows for sure! http://www.ehealthmd.com/library/ulcerativecolitis/UC_causes.html

To date, there is no known cause for ulcerative colitis. Therefore, ulcerative colitis is said to be an idiopathic disease, meaning that it develops without an apparent or known cause.

Ulcerative colitis appears to be a disease primarily of those living in Western, industrialized societies. Whether this is because of some kind of condition of the environment in which people live, or their diet, is not known. (Must be those fast food and crap I've been eating since a kid....but if so, then why only me!!! I hate fast food to start with!)

Two factors seem to play a role, however:

Weakened immune response

Heredity

Weakened Immune Response
Between one billion and one trillion normal intestinal bacteria (enteric microflora) exist in every gram of intestinal content. In the healthy intestine, invading bacteria are recognized as foreign (called antigens) and are attacked by the immune system. But those bacteria that normally live there are left alone; the intestine is "tolerant" of such bacteria. Immunologic evidence suggests that in the intestines of those with ulcerative colitis, some of this tolerance is lost. The TH1 cells, responsible for turning on the immunologic reaction against invading organisms, do their job; but the TH2 cells, responsible for turning the immunologic response off, fail to do their job. This causes an inappropriate inflammatory response. Some evidence also points to flare-ups of ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease as being an exaggerated response to seasonal allergies, upper-respiratory infections, or other transient illnesses. (Maybe? I alwas fall ill. But but...surely I not that weak! More importantly, how was the bacteria introduced to me in the first place. Moreover, it appears to be very rare here. Soooooo.......it either means this is not the main cause or, I am truly really weak :-( )

Nice To Know:

One group of researchers has suggested that maybe the eradication of a group of parasites called helminthes (worms that live in the intestinal tract) through modern sanitation might have led to a state where the immune system does not have anything to practice on, and so attacks the body's own organs.

These researchers fed a group of six individuals suffering from flare-ups of Crohn's disease a formula made up of helminthes that breed in pig intestines. Five people went into remission and one improved fairly significantly. Since these helminthes do not breed in the human gut, it was easy for the researchers to check stool samples to see when the helminthes had all been passed from the test subjects' guts. After the worms were all gone, all of the subjects experienced a recurrence of their flare-ups.

The researchers hope to study groups of individuals who suffer from autoimmune conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis and lupus to see if a similar improvement in condition occurs with the helminthes treatment.

Is Ulcerative Colitis Inherited?

There is some evidence that ulcerative colitis has a genetic component. Between 85 percent and 90 percent of people with ulcerative colitis have no relative with either ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease. But the 10 percent to 15 percent of people who have relatives with ulcerative colitis or Crohn's means that the risk is statistically higher in individuals who have a family member with inflammatory bowel disease. Other evidence points to a genetic basis: Populations that bred closely within their communities for many generations, such as Eastern European Jews, have a higher incidence of inflammatory bowel disease than other groups. (At least I know my 2nd Uncle was diagnosed with it. His was real bad. Had to do colonsectomy. I sure hope I will not end up like that. But, the good thing is, it's better to find out now and have it controlled than too late. Now my sis's will prob be made to do some test when she gets back yrend. Hmm....she should be made to try colonscopy and the crap laxative drink they made me swallow.....3L in all!)

Nice To Know:

Q. If both parents have ulcerative colitis, what are the chances that their children will have ulcerative colitis?

A. Ulcerative colitis is not a strictly genetic disease. To date, scientists have found no specific gene that miscodes and causes ulcerative colitis. The chances of a child having ulcerative colitis if his or her parents do is only slightly greater than the chances of any child having ulcerative colitis.

Latest Update - Yoga and Muscle Ache
Been sometime since I last posted anything here or on my holiday blog. Been kinda busy recently. How I wish I had more time to do things I really wanna do instead of enduring a continuing existence in that crappy company of mine. But what to do?? I need the $$$. Ok...I must try to take out some time to update my blogs more regularly. As a result of my non updates, I noticed traffic flow to my holiday blog at mooniesholiday.blogspot.com has decreased significantly. No one but myself to blame I suppose.

Ok...some interesting updates. I did my 1st yoga class last Sunday at SpaBoutique with this rather hot instructoress, Yvette Tee. Anyway, it was supposed to be a basic class. She kinda got it mixed up and taught sun salutation instead, only to realise it at the end of the class. I have no idea how basic would be like but I sure hope it would be easier. I did quite a bit of reading up before deciding to do yoga. But hell! Not a single place I read how painful, literally painful, yoga can be. I am like aching all over. I can hardly walk, I cannot squat, I cannot do anything that requires exerting my thigh muscles. I guess I am really really weak. Within the 1st 30mins of class, I felt faint, giddy and a bit pukeiss. I guess this is part of the purging of toxin process. I have afterall in my 3 going on 4 yrs with my current company accumlated many bad toxins by working with the greatest idiots ever created on the surface of this earth! And to make things worse, I have a stupid lunch meeting with the stupid ass Director whom we call KNN for Kan Ni Nah and he is an idiot. Enough about Idiots! Dun going to waste my time on them. So, back to Yoga. Despite all the pain, it was really quite good. I sweated more than I wld in a gym. Maybe I am truly on track to becoming slim again???

Ohh...a bit on my company. Yet another person's leaving!!! Happy for her. Hopefully my turn will come soon. But....what am I going to do with my life??? Aiiii....depressing.

Ok...going to read a bit and call it a day. Will be back soon....I promise! So many things to do and wanna do but yet so little time to do it all. Frustrating!!!

Pepsi Ice Cucumber
They are now selling Pepsi Ice Cucumber in Japan. Yup, cucumber! One review says it does not taste like a green salad (phew) but instead, it tastes very sweet with a light aftertaste of honeydew melon. I don't think it will be available here in Singapore. Love to give it a try.

Malaysian sports cable TV viewers get the best deal
In today's The New Paper, writer Lim Say Heng studied the current cable subscription packages of Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand and found out that StarHub's offerings seem to lag way behind Malaysia's Astro which has the best sports cable deal in the region. From The New Paper (time sensitve link):

Football lovers in Malaysia have a wider variety to choose from, with J-League, Copa Libertadores and the Cocacaf Gold Cup on offer, in addition to the EPL, Spanish Primera Liga and Italian Serie A.

What's more, the cheapest Astro Family Package (with a mini-package and sports) is about $12 less than StarHub's present minimum sports package of $36.75.

And it offers seven more channels than Singapore's StarHub.

On the surface, the Paket Prime and Paket Sport combination offered by Indonesia's IndoVision seems similar to StarHub's minimum package in terms of price and sports programmes on offer.

The Indonesian broadcaster does not show the Spanish league matches, but offers the Italian Serie A instead, and only a two-dollar difference separates them.

But if you look beyond the sports channels, you will see how IndoVision also trumps StarHub.

IndoVision offers 40 non-sports channels in its Paket Prime, compared to StarHub's offer of a maximum of 14 similar channels at the same price.

What's more, the former offers channels such as Playhouse Disney Channel, Celestial Movies and Fashion TV, which StarHub subscribers have to pay an extra fee of between $4 and $8 per month to add each channel on.

In other words, StarHub SUCKS! Come on Astro. Come to Singapore!

Starhub sucks!
Why the fuck can't starhub be more truthful in telling up when the match is gonna start?! Here in the papers, it was published that the telecast is at 1am. After the overnight training the day before and basically running on caffeine and nicotine for the entire time with no sleep, I got home, took a nap and woke up at 5mins to 1am, expecting to watch the match at the stated timing. But NO. FUCKING. WAY. What I got was almost 90 mins of fluff commentary by people I'm not in the least interested in. Fuck, I dun fucking care what they THINK is going to happen. I dun fucking care what are the other matches on the other channels. I dun fucking care what the city population is or the history of the country. I just want to watch the match with Manchester United in it! Is it so fucking hard to understand? If I want to be all touristy, I can watch Discovery Travel & Living! When I wake up at times when I should be sound asleep, football is what I want! Not a 2 hour pre match program! I have paid the price of subscription, I have sacrificed my sleep to watch the match. I do not need to be forced through the agony of wondering WHEN the match is gonna start! Fuck you starhub! At least have the decency to tell us PAYING CUSTOMERS the kick off timing. Let US fucking decide if we wanna wake up 2 hours earlier for the pre match show or spend it the way we want to, ie, sleep!
